The
University of Iowa’s College of Education and Department of Speech Pathology
and Audiology are
pleased to announce our new Hearing Impaired Endorsement. The University
of Iowa is currently the only institution in the State of Iowa that offers
this endorsement program. Holders of this endorsement are authorized to serve
students with hearing loss from birth to age 21. Applicants to this program
must hold or be in the process of completing a regular elementary or secondary
teaching license.
Undergraduates
not yet admitted to a Teacher Education Program: You will
need to make application to our elementary or secondary Teacher Education
Program. Admission information and application materials are available on
our web site (www.education.uiowa.edu/tess).
Please note that we review applications to this program only two times a
year. You must be admitted to this program before your application to the
hearing impaired program will be considered. Once admission to the Teacher
Education Program has been confirmed, you will need to file an application
to the Deaf or Hard-of Hearing Program. This application must be submitted
to The Office of Teacher Education and Student Services, N310 Lindquist Center. Applications to the Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing Program are reviewed on an on-going
basis.
Undergraduates or Graduates currently in a Teacher
Education Program: You need only file the application for
the Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing Program. These applications are reviewed on an
on-going basis.
Individuals who hold an Iowa Teaching License with
a regular teaching endorsement: You may elect to be admitted
to The University of Iowa as a post-baccalaureate undergraduate student only.
There is currently no vehicle for admission to a graduate program in hearing
impaired.
