Graduate
Admission
The Office of Teacher Education and Student
Services coordinates the procedures for admission to programs
in the College of Education at both the Undergraduate and
Graduate levels. Either the College
of Liberal Arts or the Graduate
College governs all programs. The application process,
therefore, involves application to the College
of Liberal Arts or Graduate
College in addition to the College
of Education.
The College of Education offers the following
graduate degrees:
- M.A. (with or without thesis)
- M.S. (With or without thesis)
- M.A.T.
(Master of Arts in Teaching)*Teacher
Education Program policies pertain - see below.
- Ed.S. (Educational Specialist)
- Ph.D.
All College of Education Graduate level programs are governed
by the Graduate College
therefore, we recommend that you become familiar with Graduate
College Rules and Regulations.
We also recommend that you become familiar with the following Important Degree Requirements for each graduate degree: Ph.D., Ed.S., Master's.
Students
can also complete programs under a Graduate College status
of Certification Only, or take a limited number of individual
courses on a Professional Improvement status. These statuses require regular departmental (not non-degree) admission to the Graduate College even though neither of these are degree granting statuses.
The Office of Admissions can provide information on admissions procedures. Graduate Admission materials are coordinated in the College of Education by Sue Cline (Ph.D., Ed.S., Cert., PI, and all international students) and Debbie Rogers (M.A./M.S./M.A.T).
Degree offerings,
majors, application requirements, and deadlines vary by program.
Check the Academic
Department web pages for details.
All
College of Education programs require that at least 2 letters
of recommendation accompany the Graduate College Application.
We provide a printable copy of the Graduate Application letter
of recommendation form for the convenience of
your writers. We will also accept a text written letter of
recommendation.
TEACHER
EDUCATION PROGRAMS
Students who have completed a baccalaureate
degree may be admitted to a teacher preparation program in
one of two ways.
- They may apply to the College of Liberal
Arts as post-baccalaureate students with senior standing.
Students selecting this option should not apply as special
non-degree students. Instead, they must apply to the appropriate teacher
education program following the undergraduate admissions
procedure.
- They may apply to the Graduate College
with their objective stated as "certification only"
or in some secondary teaching areas with a Master of Arts
in Teaching (M.A.T.) objective (English, Foreign Language,
Science). Or to the Social Studies M.A. Program B.

Note that this Student Consent form is different from and additional to the Student Consent form contained in the Teacher Education Program application packet.
- The
minimum Teacher Education Program GRE cut score is a composite of 900 on Verbal and Quantitative sections

We will not
accept a graduate program application with a g.p.a. below
2.50. Applications with a g.p.a. between 2.50 and 3.00 will be considered for admission. Such a petition is made by the program faculty.
