Summer 2008 - Spring 2009 College of Education list of graduate student procedures and exam deadlines
Comprehensive Exams:
Offered by most programs during fall and spring semesters and by some programs during summer session. Program Coordinators or advisors should be contacted regarding availability of exams during summer session.
Comprehensive Exam sessions are scheduled twice each semester over two consecutive days. Applications must be submitted by the established deadlines (see procedures and exam deadlines above).
A complete application to the non-doctoral exams would include the Comprehensive Exam application accessible below, a Graduate College Plan of Study, a Request for Subtrack designation (if applicable), and the Graduate Degree Application.
An Adobe version
of the Non-doctoral
Comprehensive Exam application is available. You can
obtain a Graduate College Plan of Study Summary, and Subtrack
Designation Request from the Office of Teacher Education
and Student Services. If you retrieve the form from the web site it should be returned when complete to the Office of Teacher Education and Student Services for signatures. The Plan of Study form is treated like a working document until you turn it in to the Office of Teacher Education and Student Services. The Graduate Degree Application can
be obtain by contacting the Registrar's
Office
A complete application
to the Ph.D. exam session would include the application
(accessible with Adobe), and a Graduate College Plan of Study.
Again, if forms are retrieved from the web site they should be returned to the Office of Teacher Education and Student Services for approval. Students completing doctoral exams must show a regular
course registration for the semester in which they
write the exam. You must obtain a Graduate College Plan of
Study Summary from the Office of Teacher Education and Student
Services.
Note:
Several areas such as Science Education use different exam
formats. Students should discuss procedures with their advisor.
Nevertheless, students must file applications and exam requests
by published deadlines.
Ph.D. Thesis Defense:
The student and
their faculty committee schedule Ph.D. final examinations
(thesis defense). Exam dates must be officially declared in
the Office of Teacher Education and Student Services at least 2 weeks before the oral defense and by the established
deadlines. Students preparing for thesis defense must have
satisfied all coursework submitted on the Graduate College
Plan of Study. Applications can be obtained by contacting
Sue
Cline or download
the Information for Request for Final Exam form and the Subtrack Designation form (if applicable). Note: Although the Request for Final exam is available through the Graduate College web site the Information for Request for Final Exam is preferred in the College of Education.
Students planning to complete the Ph.D. in any given semester must be enrolled during that semester and must file an Application for Degree.
