Special Education Welcome! Welcome to the Special Education Program in the Department of Teaching and Learning at The University of Iowa. The programs are offered in K-8 and 5-12 Instructional Strategist I: Mild/Moderate, and K-12 Instructional Strategist II: BD/LD areas. All teacher licensure/certification programs are approved by the Iowa Department of Education. - Our undergraduate endorsement program prepares students to teach special education in elementary: Kindergarten through 8th grade.
- Our graduate programs (M.A.) provide in-depth theoretical and field work experiences in special education.
- Our Ph.D. program builds on the theoretical and practical knowledge of our candidates, while preparing them with the necessary research skills to attain positions in research and leadership in higher level educational institutions.
- Our faculty is dedicated to continued research and professional development in special education. The Center for Disability Research and Education (CDRE pronounced "cedar") is a great informational tool for those interested in more about instructional practices, our faculty's areas of interest, contact information, and current news and research projects.
