The whole group at Chalmers

Why Iowa?

Instead of heading to the beach for spring break, 12 UI students decided to expand their horizons through a service-learning course taught by Professor Kathryn Whitmore.

Sarah Bergeson said she hadn’t had a lot of exposure working with children from diverse backgrounds. “I learned the importance of not judging children based on their background,” Bergeson said. “These children are so bright and talented.”

Language, Literacy, and Culture Program

The program in Language, Literacy, and Culture (LLC) offers a Ph.D. that brings together scholarly traditions and contemporary theory in literacy and cultural studies.

Our students pursue original studies that explore the nature of literate practices throughout childhood and adulthood, in and out of school.

Our graduates secure careers in university and college teaching, research, curriculum development, and administration of literacy programs.
