Course Description

While continually raising theoretical issues, we will work hard to construct a social studies methods course linked firmly to the real world of teaching. In attaining this goal, you can expect to do a lot of teaching, planning and collaborative work with fellow students. The plan of action for the semester (outlined below) will remain flexible.

Required Readings
  • National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS). Expectations for Excellence: Curriculum Standards in the Social Studies.
  • Lockwood, Alan and David Harris. Reasoning with Democratic Values, 1877 to the Present, Vol. II.
  • Patterson, Katherine. Lyddie.
  • Taylor, Mildred. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.
