Course Description
Orientation to elementary education is designed to provide elementary education majors with an overview of the elementary education program by clarifying program requirements including the state teaching performance standards, ten-hour volunteer experience, mid-level practicum, and student teaching. Information will also be presented relative to the advising, iowa teacher performance standards & licensure, and job placement process. Additional topics of discussion will include having students become familiar with the roles, behaviors, and responsibilities of a classroom teacher. Areas of particular focus will include classroom observation, unit and lesson planning, and classroom management.
