Program Completion Testing:

Iowa Elementary Education Praxis II Testing Requirement

Every new Iowa elementary teacher completing a state approved teacher preparation program must take one of two Praxis II Subject Assessment content tests in order to be considered Highly Qualified under the federal legislation No Child Left Behind. The Iowa Department of Education requires that you take one of two content tests offered by Educational Testing Service.

The Iowa Board of Educational Examiners requires that you take one of these tests:

  • Elementary Education: Content Knowledge
    Test Code 0014 (paper-delivered) or
    Test Code 5014 (computer-delivered)

OR

  • Elementary Education: Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment
    Test Code 0011 (paper-delivered) or
    Test Code 5011 (computer-delivered)

You may take either test in either the paper-delivered or computer-delivered format. Because this testing requirement is a requirement for program completion, you cannot be recommended to any state for licensure until you have satisfied this requirement.

Register online through Educational Testing Service. When you register, be sure to request as a score recipient: "Univ of Iowa Education," which is institution/recipient code number "6681."
