Important Degree Requirement Information
For Specialist in Education Degree Students

  1. RESIDENCE REQUIREMENT – Of the minimum of 60 semester hours required for the degree, at least 24 semester hours must be completed in residence at this University, of which 15 semester hours must be earned while the students is on campus within one 12 month period or during two summer sessions. RESIDENCE CREDIT IS NOT ALLOWED FOR COURSE WORK COMPLETED WHILE ON NON-DEGREE/NON-DEPARTMENTAL STATUS.

  2. Courses taken ten or more years prior to the comprehensive examination must be updated if they are to be included on the Plan of Study. Contact your advisor of the Office of Education Services regarding the update procedure. Course work over ten years old which has not been verified by an update letter must be deleted from the Plan of Study.

  3. This is a non-thesis degree program. Please identify it as such when completing the Plan of Study.

  4. Students must be registered during the session in which the degree is to be conferred.

  5. A copy of the signed certificate page should be submitted to the Office of Education Services by the College of Education deadline. The certificate page must be signed by at least the directors(s) of the Ed.S. Research Project and submitted as a first page of the project.

COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATIONS – The Office of Education Services schedules the comprehensive examinations each session. Please stop by this office for application materials the session before you plan to take the exams.
