SOC Information
Goals
- To be the focal point for statistical consulting within the College of Education
- To promote the use of appropriate and informative statistical methods
- To foster mutually beneficial contacts between researchers both within the College of Education and in the broader University community
- To provide practical training in statistical consulting to advanced Measurement and Statistics graduate students
Population Served
Our clients come from a variety of departments across campus. Many have had training in statistics but either need assistance translating what they learned in the classroom to their own research or their research requires statistical methods that are more advanced than the methods they learned about in class.
Services Offered
- Assistance with grant proposals
- Access to specialized statistical software (Bilog, Multilog, Parscale, SIBTEST, Testfact, EQS, HLM, LISREL) in the SOC lab
- Occasional short courses on the use of statistical software programs.
Statistical Consulting
We offer assistance with
- Issues related to sample size and power
- Choice and application of statistical methods
- Use of statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, Bilog, Multilog, Parscale, HLM, LISREL, and Genova)
- Interpretation of results
- Visual and written presentation of statistical results.
