Job Search Strategies: Teachers & School Administrators

Take advantage of the job seeking resources to save time, energy, and remove the guesswork from your job search. You’ll feel more confident and better able to manage the demands placed on you as you enter the professional workforce. A new generation of committed educators is stepping forward to fill the gaps created by retirements and school growth.  Be ready for the rigors of the selection process and review the resources designed especially for you.

But how do I apply for jobs?

  1. Find jobs and employment vacancies online and via word of mouth.
  2. Apply for jobs!  Apply to districts that have vacancies as well as districts that interest you (even if they haven’t posted a job yet.)  Thoroughly and carefully complete the school district's application form. Follow specific instructions for submitting the application and supplementary materials: cover letter, résumé, letters of recommendation, fingerprints, state or national competency test scores, lesson plans, transcripts, or other portfolio materials.
  3. Follow up on job leads.  Allow at least two weeks between application and follow up.  Contact hiring officials via phone or email.  In all contacts, thank the individual for their time and assistance.

Be patient! Be persistent! Be professional!
