Graduate Programs - Ph.D.
"I immediately felt at home here. The faculty were fun and accessible and more than anything, I could see myself in their classes learning with the students I had met." PhD student
Description

The Ph.D. in Student Affairs Administration and Research (SAAR) is intended to provide in-depth preparation for individuals who wish to serve in leadership positions in work with college students, student affairs administration, graduate student affairs preparation programs, and/or research about college students. The SAAR Ph.D. emphasizes administrative practice and college student and student affairs research.

The SAAR Ph.D. program is generally planned for 3 to 4 years of full-time study. Educational foundations covered in the SAAR doctoral curriculum include: administration, research on college students, research tools, and a minor area of the student's choice. Each student must pass a nine-hour written comprehensive examination to be admitted into candidacy for the Ph.D. Most students complete the SAAR Ph.D. with 90-110 semester hours (post-baccalaureate).

The SAAR faculty share scholarly interests in college student experiences and professional development in student affairs. In addition, each has achieved national distinction for contributions to student affairs scholarship and practice. These common interests create a unique opportunity to offer a program that draws on the expertise of the faculty, expertise which is translated into course offerings as well as opportunities for graduate student research.
