| The Albert B. Hood Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna Award is presented each year at the convention of the American College Personnel Association. The award was created to pay tribute to Al's contributions, not only to our program, but also to the development of student affairs and counselor education around the country and around the world. |

2009: Michael Freeman (M.A. '83)
Dr. Freeman serves as Vice President of Student Affairs at Tennessee State University. After graduating from the UI, he obtained his PhD in Counseling and Personnel Services at the University of Maryland at College Park. Dr. Freeman has over 25 years of experience in higher education administration as well as teaching experience with undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Counseling and Personnel Services at Maryland. Dr. Freeman is published in The Handbook of Student Affairs Administration, The Black Students Guide to College Success, and Managing Liabilities and Overseas Programs. He is also active in NASPA and ACPA having served as a member of the NASPA Journal editorial board for six years. |

| 2007: Diane Cooper (Ph.D. '85) is a professor at the University of Georgia’s College of Education Department of Counseling and Human Development Services, and Coordinator of UGA’s master’s degree program in College Student Affairs Administration. |
| 2006: Darlene Biggers (Ph.D. '88) is Associate Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. |
| 2005: Lynnea J. Halberg (Ph.D. '87) is retired from her position as Vice President for Student Development at Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia. |
| 2004: C. Carney Strange (M.A. '76; Ph.D. '78) is a Professor at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. |
| 2003: Terry Piper (M.A. '79) is Vice President for Student Affairs at California State University Northridge. |
| 2002: Mary Howard Hamilton (M.A. '77) is a Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, Administration, and Foundations at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. |
