MA Program

Admission requirements include:

  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0
  • Completion of the Graduate Record Exam
  • Evidence of significant undergraduate leadership experience or student affairs experience, writing ability, and fit with the program

Although these are general criteria, the admissions committee considers each applicant's entire portfolio. In some cases interviews are required; applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview if necessary. Applications are considered for Fall semester only. Applicants will not be considered until they have submitted a complete application packet (i.e., application forms, goal statement, three letters of reference, GRE scores, and official transcripts from all previous postsecondary coursework).

To be considered for Graduate Assistantships and Graduate College Fellowships applications must be received by February 1.

Application deadlines are:

  • February 1 for August enrollment.

Campus Visit Days for admitted students are scheduled for March 5-6, 2009.

PhD Program
"At the end of my master's degree, I found myself absolutely loving to conduct research. Since I had worked for five years in the field before my master's, I decided to take the plunge and follow my research interests to a Ph.D. program." Doctoral Student

Admission requirements include:

  • Master's degree in student personnel, higher education, counselor education, or related field
  • Minimum undergraduate G.P.A. of 3.0 or graduate G.P.A. of 3.3
  • Minimum combined score (verbal and quantitative) of 1100 on the Graduate Record Exam
  • Evidence of significant contribution to student affairs, community organizations, or successful related work; generally, a minimum of 3 to 5 years full-time work experience is expected.

Although these are general criteria, the admissions committee considers each applicant's entire portfolio. Applications are considered only when complete (i.e., application forms, goal statement, three letters of reference, GRE scores, and official transcripts from all previous postsecondary coursework.) Personal interviews are suggested, but are not required.

Application deadlines are:

  • Doctoral applications are considered for fall enrollment only and once a year. The deadline for doctoral applications is January 1.
