When Science and Literacy Meet:

Creating Support for Teachers Implementing Writing in the Science Classroom

This 5-year NSF project (2005-1010) supports K-12 teachers’ implementation of writing to learn strategies in the science classroom.  This project promotes and explores concepts of writing to learn strategies in creative and innovative ways by moving beyond traditional formats.  The objective is to produce two books and a professional development manual designed to support teachers across the professional continuum while improving teaching practices and strengthening classroom instruction.  These books and manual will be field-tested and re-tested in various settings to reach both pre-service and in-service professionals.
