Minor in Pediatric Psychology

Prerequisites

Admitted to a Ph.D. program in Psychology at the University of Iowa.

Successfully completed a course or practicum with a Pediatric Psychology faculty member.

Inform advisor of interest in Pediatric Psychology.

Advisor recommend that student make an appointment with Lynn Richman, Director of Pediatric Psychology, UIHC, to discuss the specialization.

A formal letter of recommendation from the student’s advisor indicating that there is program approval to substitute Pediatric Psychology courses for current required courses.  The substitutions will be specified, since they will become part of the student’s formal Plan of Study.

There are no set deadlines for applying, but students will not be accepted without the above prerequisites and formal approval by the faculty in the Pediatric Psychology program.

Requirements in Pediatric Psychology

Coursework (minimum of 6 semester hours)

Recommended classes

              Behavioral Assessment                           07P:352             3 s.h.

              Neuropsychology of Learning                   070:247             3 s.h.

              Independent Study in Pediatrics               070:300             3 s.h.

Other classes may only be substituted with Pediatric Psychology Division permission.

Practica (minimum of 12 semester hours)

All practica require a continuous 2 semester sequence not including summer school, although summer school may be added to the 2 semester practicum.

Recommended

              Evaluation of Children with LD                 070:245             3 s.h.

              Assessment of Behavior Disorders            070:253             3 s.h.

              Evaluation of Attention Deficit Disorders   070:252             3 s.h.

              Clinical Pediatric Neuropsychology            070:250             3 s.h.

Other practica or supervised experience may only be substituted with Pediatric Psychology Division permission.

Completion of Comprehensive Examination in Pediatric Psychology.

The exams will be based on the coursework of the student in Pediatric Psychology.
