LLOYD SMITH SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established in memory of Lloyd L. Smith, long time professor in the College of Education.   Lloyd Smith received his bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa, and his masters and doctorate from The University of Iowa.  Early in his career he was an elementary teacher and a laboratory school supervisor.  A professor at The University of Iowa for 37 years, he taught elementary education courses with a specialization in social studies and also was one of the initiators of the special education program here.  He served on the Solon Community School Board for a number of years.  An able advisor to many undergraduate and graduate students, he retired in 1991.  He died in November 1996.
