School Counseling Program Emphasis
in Gifted and Talented Education
The University of Iowa

The University of Iowa is proud to announce a Nation's first. The School Counseling Program in the Department of Counseling, Rehabilitation and Student Development has a new vision. A vision of inclusiveness in School Counseling preparation. The School Counseling program has joined in partnership with The Connie Belin and Jacqueline N. Blank International Center for Gifted and Talented Education to offer a school counseling degree with an emphasis in gifted and talented education.

The University of Iowa School Counseling Program faculty believe school counseling professionals are responsible for nurturing K-12 students to reach their full potential in the areas of academic, career, and personal-social development regardless of their ability level. We embrace preparing school counselors to be fully cognizant of all exceptionalities particularly gifted and talented students.

Our program emphasizes:

  • Added value in acquiring knowledge in counseling gifted and talented students.
  • Licensure eligibility as a school counselor with an endorsement or certificate in talented and gifted education.
  • Clinical experience at the Connie Belin and Jacqueline N. Blank International Center for Gifted and Talented Education.
