Linking to Course Syllabi

The "Course Syllabus" link on each ePortfolio™ coursepage goes to a syllabus for that particular course in the semester in which you took the course. These syllabi address the performance standards the College of Education uses for evaluation and re-accreditation. These "standards syllabi" are less detailed than, and do not replace, the syllabi handed out in classes or appearing on course websites.

The template coursepages have a "dummy" link (that goes to a page with these instructions) that you need to replace so it opens the syllabus page for your course in the semester you take it.

These instructions are for SharePoint Designer and Internet Explorer, but the procedure is the same with any web page editing application and web browser.

To link to a standards syllabus:

  1. Open the coursepage in Designer.
  2. Go to the Syllabus Index page.
  3. Select the appropriate semester from the "Select A Session" drop down menu.
For semesters before Fall 2006, click the Spring 2006 and earlier link and click the link to the appropriate semester.
  4. Clink the link to the appropriate course.
  5. Select the page's address in the Address field at the top of the browser window. It starts with http://www.education.uiowa.edu/syllabi/ and ends with a number.
  6. Press Control-C to copy the address.
  7. Go back to the course page in Designer.
  8. Right-click the link text (Course Syllabus) and select Edit Hyperlink.
  9. Remove the current entire url from the Hyperlink field.
  10. With the cursor in the Hyperlink field press Control-V to paste the address. NOTE: the menu Paste command will not work.
