Advisory Board of the Rehabilitation Counseling Program

The Advisory Board of the University of Iowa Rehabilitation Counseling Program (UIRCP) is dedicated to enhancing the quality and availability of well trained and dedicated professional rehabilitation counselors in the state of Iowa and the region surrounding it. Through this resource, the ultimate goal is to enhance the quality of life for persons with disability and the communities in which they work and live. This mission is accomplished through the commitment of the Advisory Board to provide advice, consultation, and support to the Program and in its educational, research, and community education activities. The Board is comprised of rehabilitation professionals, consumers, including students and alumni, as well as faculty. Meetings are held biannually to achieve its objectives.

The Advisory Board will seek to provide:

  • Consultation regarding the nature of the curriculum and its suitability to prepare Rehabilitation counseling practitioners, with particular attention to identifying new issues and knowledge relevant to the curriculum.
  • Information regarding emerging trends in the practice of rehabilitation counseling and the rehabilitation community to enhance long-term planning for the UIRCP Program.
  • Consultation in identifying and developing an appropriate quality, range and depth of clinical training sites in the community sufficient to fulfill program training goal.
  • Assistance in recruitment of suitable applicants to the UIRCP Program, with special attention to persons with disabilities and other traditionally underrepresented groups.
  • Assistance in placement of graduates in community rehabilitation agencies and facilities, consistent with the graduate’s education and capabilities, as well as the community’s personnel needs.
  • Assistance in efforts to enhance the visibility of the UIRCP Program, its faculty and graduates in the community, state, region, and nation.
  • Assistance in representing the rehabilitation community perspective on matters affecting the UIRCP Program as needed to the University of Iowa and its components.
  • Consultation and advisement to the student body regarding matters which may affect their training and career paths in rehabilitation counseling.
  • Assistance in facilitating faculty and student research projects as needed through consultation on research objectives, methods and data availability in the rehabilitation community.
