and Objectives
MISSION
STATEMENT
The
mission of the Advisory Board is to advance the cause of assisting
individuals with disabilities in moving into the mainstream
of life by providing advice, consultation and support to The
University of Iowa's Graduate Programs in Rehabilitation in
their educational, research, and community education activities.
VISION
STATEMENT
In
the rapidly changing world of rehabilitation, it is imperative
that educational programs for rehabilitation professionals
access and apply the knowledge and expertise of experienced
rehabilitation professionals within the community. To that
end, the Advisory Board will insure that the Graduate Programs
in Rehabilitation are based in the current and forecasted
rehabilitation needs of individuals with disabilities.
OBJECTIVES
The
Advisory Board supports the Strategic Plan of The Graduate
Programs in Rehabilitation by:
GENERAL
1. assisting in representing the rehabilitation community
perspective on matters affecting the Program and representing
the Program as needed to The University of Iowa and its components.
POLICY
DIRECTION I: MARKETING
1. providing information regarding emerging trends in the
practice of rehabilitation counseling and the rehabilitation
community to enhance long-term planning.
2.
consulting regarding recruitment of suitable applicants to
the Program with special attention to persons with disabilities
and other traditionally underrepresented groups.
3.
consultting about placement of graduates in community rehabilitation
agencies, facilities, and educational institutions consistent
with the graduate's education and capabilities, as well as
the rehabilitation community's personnel needs.
4.
consulting regarding efforts to enhance the visibility of
the Program, its faculty and graduates in the community, state,
region, and nation.
5.
communicating Program issues and perspectives to the administration
of the College of Education and The University of Iowa administration.
6.
consulting regarding outreach to Program alumnae.
POLICY
DIRECTION II: CURRICULUM
1.
providing information regarding emerging trends in the practice
of rehabilitation counseling and the rehabilitation community
to enhance long-term curriculum planning.
2.
consulting with Program faculty regarding the nature of the
curriculum and its suitability to prepare rehabilitation counseling
practitioners and educators with particular attention to identifying
new issues, knowledge, and skills relevant to the curriculum.
3.
consulting and advisement to Program students regarding matters
that may affect their educational and career paths.
4.
providing relevant information regarding community research
needs and assisting in linking researchers to information
regarding potential research opportunities in the rehabilitation
community.
5.
facilitating student clinical education experiences through
assisting in the identification and development of high quality
field agencies and clinical supervisors.
POLICY
DIRECTION III: OPERATIONS
1.
advocating for adequate Program faculty, staff, and resources
to accomplish the mission of the Program.
2.
representing the Program to various credentialing bodies related
to the mission of the Program.
3.
identifying and facilitating appropriate partnerships and
connections necessary to accomplish the marketing and curriculum
policy strategies of the Program's Strategic Plan.
4.
advocating for the development of financial resources to enhance
Program operations.
5.
Upon request of the Program faculty, providing consultation
regarding administrative issues that affect the Program.
