Academic Standards Academic Probation: Students are expected to meet academic standards set by the program as well as demonstrate reasonable progress toward completion of coursework to receive a Certificate of Completion. Students who do not achieve a grade point average (G.P.A.) of 1.85 (slightly above a C-) or above in their R.E.A.C.H courses, will be placed on academic probation. Classes outside of the R.E.A.C.H Program are not included in calculating the G.P.A. Students on academic probation are restored to good standing if their grade point average equals or exceeds 1.85 the following quarter. Dismissal from the R.E.A.C.H Program occurs following one semester (2 quarters) of probation. For example, a student who is placed on probation after the fall semester and fails to achieve a 1.85 G.P.A. the next spring semester will be dismissed. Academic Dismissal Notification: Students dismissed based on academic performance, are notified in writing of these actions. The notice is sent to the current residing address as listed in the student record. To ensure proper receipt of records, students must update their “residing address” whenever necessary. ("Residing address" updates can be made on the ISIS website.) If a student can document that their unsatisfactory academic performance was the result of extenuating circumstances, such as a disabling illness or a personal crisis, an appeal for a revocation of a dismissal may be submitted.
Appealing an academic dismissal: An appeal must be addressed to the R.E.A.C.H Director. It may not be handwritten or emailed; it must be signed, and must include the student’s full name, student ID number, and current address. Students have 7 days from dismissal to appeal the decision to the Director. The decision of the Director is final. Reinstatement: Students dismissed for unsatisfactory scholarship for the first time are not permitted to request reinstatement until the following academic year. Requests for reinstatement must be made in writing to the Director. The student would be interviewed and considered with all other applicants for the following academic year. There will be a reinstatement fee. Students are strongly encouraged to communicate or discuss any actions or disciplinary notices with their parents and R.E.A.C.H staff. |
