Cost and Financial Aid

A Group of Students Look Upon Artwork at an Art GalleryThe REACH Program does not qualify for federal financial aid at this time.  Need-based scholarships may be available.  We advise applicants interested in seeking financial assistance to pursue all potential sources of funding by contacting a home-town bank for student loan information, a local guidance counselor to learn about scholarships, or other service providers.

(c) This rate covers the cost for REACH courses and up to 3 credits of undergraduate University courses per year.

(d) This is the 2009-2010 rate for a double room with full board (20 meals per week).

(e) Students pay University tuition for any additional University courses taken beyond the 3 credits covered by REACH tuition each year.

Need-based scholarships

Need-based scholarships may be available for students applying to the REACH Program.  To be considered for a scholarship, the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) must be submitted and the REACH Financial Assistance application must be completed by March 13, 2009.  For further information, review the application checklist and financial assistance application.

Completing the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov is easy, secure, and fast. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at 319-384-2127 or the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID. Paper copies of the FAFSA can be downloaded from the website or requested from the Federal Student Aid Information Center.

Financial Statement

As part of the enrollment process, applicants for the REACH Program must submit evidence of adequate support to cover the costs of one full year of participation in REACH.  Once the student is offered a place in the Program, the student’s admission cannot be finalized, without proper certification of financial ability to provide support, due to the size of the REACH Program.  This information is requested annually for continuation into the 2nd year of the REACH Program.

Billing Information

Payment of fees for the REACH Program are billed through the University of Iowa “UBill” system.  Unless otherwise instructed, payments should be sent directly to the University Billing Office.  The first bill is available to view on the student's "UBill" account on August 1st with payment due on August 22nd.  This bill will be for half of the cost of the REACH Program for the academic year, along with University and Housing fees.  An updated "UBill" statment is available each month through the student's "UBill" account.

Bills can be accessed via the ISIS system and will be sent to the student’s residing address.  Parents can be authorized to view and receive UBills via ISIS, a University on line system.

Reimbursement for Withdrawal and Dismissal

Students considering withdrawing from the REACH Program are required to discuss their desire to withdraw with their REACH Advisor and their parents before starting the process.

Requests for withdrawal require the student to submit a completed Student Withdrawal Card (available at the REACH Office).  The effective date of withdrawal is the date the completed card is returned to the REACH Office.  REACH Staff notify The University of Iowa Registrar’s Office.  The Program Fee may be adjusted if the student withdraws or is dismissed from the REACH Program.  If the student is entitled to an adjustment, authorization for that adjustment is done by the REACH office effective the date the completed card is received.

Students dismissed from the program due to academic and discipline concerns follow the same reimbursement schedule.

Program Fee adjustments for the REACH Program are as follows:

If withdrawal or dismissal occurs within:

Weeks 1-4 of the semester, reimbursement is 65% of the semester program fee.

Weeks 5-8 of the semester, reimbursement is 50% of the semester program fee.

Weeks 9-12 of the semester, reimbursement is 25% of the semester program fee.

Weeks 13-16 of the semester, there is no reimbursement.

Mandatory fees required by The University of Iowa which are paid at the beginning of the semester are NOT reimbursed.

University Housing Contract Obligations (specific to REACH students): The student and family also need to notify University Housing to cancel the student's housing contract. A student who withdraws or is dismissed from REACH is responsible for the room fee for the entire academic year if the space is unable to be occupied in accordance with University Housing and REACH policies.
