Undergraduates seeking teacher certification obtain a Bachelor of Music degree from the School of Music and certification through the College of Education's Teacher Education Program (TEP).

Undergraduates obtain teacher licensure in music education by completing:

  1. the requirements for a Bachelor of Music degree in the School of Music;
  2. and the appropriate licensure program (e.g., Band, Choral, String).  Before taking required professional education courses, undergraduate students must be admitted to the Teacher Education Program administered by the Office of Teacher Education and Student Services in the College of Education.

Graduate students may obtain a Master of Arts (Music Education emphasis) or a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Music (Music Education emphasis) through the School of Music.  Entering Master's students typically hold an undergraduate degree in music, but can pursue the M.A. plus certification.
