Dr. Gregory P. Stefanich is Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI). After earning a doctorate in curriculum and supervision from the University of Montana, he taught at Montana State University prior to joining the UNI faculty. Dr. Stefanich has authored three books, numerous book chapters and monographs, and approximately 50 journal articles. In recent years, his scholarship has been directed toward improving inclusive practice in science education. He currently serves as a site director on MIDWEST a National Science Foundation Project between the University of Northern Iowa, the University of Wisconsin, Madison and the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana to improve science learning experiences and employment opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) for students with disabilities. He has presented his work at conferences throughout the United States as well as in Europe, Asia, and South America. He has served as principal investigator for 19 National Science Foundation Grant Awards and directed over 30 institutes and workshops. Dr. Stefanich has been conferred many professional honors including the Phillip G. Hubbard Outstanding Educator Award (2003), Ross A. Nielsen Professional Service Award (1998), Distinguished Scholar Award (1994), and Regents Award for Faculty Excellence (1993) from UNI. He has also been honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from Science Education for Persons with Disabilities Association (2006), as a Fellow in the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2005), the R.P. Brimm Award for Outstanding Contributions to Middle Level Education in Iowa (1983) and the President's Award from the National Middle School Association (1981).
