Dr. Patricia Sitlington

Dr. Patricia L. Sitlington is Professor and Coordinator of the graduate emphasis in Career/Vocational Programming and Transition at the University of Northern Iowa. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Kansas with a major in Special Education, and a minor in Educational Psychology and Research. She has also been on faculty at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, and has been a classroom teacher and a member of staff of the Iowa Department of Education.

Dr. Sitlington has written extensively in the area of transition from school to adult life for individuals with disabilities. Her research interests lie in the areas of assessment and adult outcomes for individuals with and without disabilities. She has authored three books and numerous articles in these areas. She has also served as director or co-director of a number of federally- and state-funded projects. In particular, she was director of the Iowa Statewide Follow-up Study, a five-year longitudinal study of young adults with disabilities. In addition, she serves on the editorial board of five professional journals.

Dr. Sitlington's honors include the Hubbard Award for Outstanding UNI Educator, the McKay UNI Faculty Research Award, the Iowa Board of Regents Award for Faculty Excellence, and the Kolstoe Award for Lifelong Achievement from the International Division on Career Development and Transition. In addition, she has earned the David Zeigler Award for Outstanding Service from the Iowa Association for Children with Learning Disabilities and the award for Outstanding Service Provider from the Indiana Vocational Association.
