Dr. Kenneth A. Kavale is Professor of Special Education at Regent University, Virginia Beach, Virginia. Previously, he was Professor of Special Education at The University of Iowa. He received his doctorate in reading and special education from the University of Minnesota in 1976. Dr. Kavale's research focuses primarily on issues related to the assessment, intervention, and policies surrounding specific learning disabilities. He has authored two volumes, The Science of Learning Disabilities and The Nature of Learning Disabilities that explored the theoretical and conceptual foundation of the field. His latest book, The Positive Side of Special Education: Minimizing Its Fads, Fancies, and Follies, examines controversial interventions throughout the history of special education. Dr. Kavale is also interested in quantitative research synthesis - specifically the methods of meta-analysis. Since 1980, he has completed over two dozen meta-analyses across a variety of topics that have engendered both agreement and disagreement in the literature.
