Dr. Robert L. Brennan

Dr. Robert Brennan is E. F. Lindquist Chair of Measurement and Testing in the College of Education at The University of Iowa and Director of the Center for Advanced Studies in Measurement and Assessment (CASMA). He was Director of the Iowa Testing Programs at The University of Iowa from 1994-2002.

Dr. Brennan received his doctorate from Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1970. He then served on the faculty at SUNY Stony Brook until 1976 when he moved to American College Testing, where he worked for 18 years in various capacities including Assistant Vice-President for Measurement Research and Distinguished Research Scientist, before moving to The University of Iowa in 1994.

Dr. Brennan authored two books on generalizability theory and co-authored a book on test equating. He has edited two other books and is currently editing the fourth edition of Educational Measurement, the "bible" in the field. He has published numerous articles in professional journals on various topics in educational measurement, including generalizability theory, equating, scaling, performance assessment, standard-setting, and domain-referenced testing.

Dr. Brennan is a member of numerous professional organizations and a Fellow of Division 5 of the American Psychological Association. He has served as President of the Mid-Western Educational Research Association, President of the Iowa Academy of Education, Vice-President of Division D of the American Educational Research Association, and President of the National Council on Measurement in Education. Brennan received the 2000 NCME Award for Career Contributions to Educational Measurement.
