Announcing the 2012 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards!
The Belin-Blank Center proudly serves as the Iowa Affiliate and the Midwest Region-at-Large Affiliate of the Alliance
for Young Artists and Writers for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
Do you have an Andy Warhol, Robert Redford, Sue Miller, Richard Avedon, Philip Pearlstein,
Kay WalkingStick, Zac Posen, Joyce Carol Oates, Tom Otterness, Robert Indiana, Sylvia
Plath, John Lithgow, or Joyce Maynard sitting in your classroom? These distinguished
Scholastic Art & Writing Awards alumni were mentored by teachers just like you.
Encourage your students to submit their best work in more than 30 categories, including
animation, poetry, sculpture, fashion design, journalism, photography, novel writing,
science fiction, and video game design.
Open to students in grades 7-12. Registration opens September 15. December 23,
2011 is the Regional Deadline for both Art & Writing.
Schedule
- September 15, 2011—Scholastic Art & Writing Awards registration opens.
- December 23, 2011—Art & Writing entry deadline for Iowa Region and Midwest Region-at-Large
- January 26—Deadline for Video Game submissions (register online and send forms and fees to NYC office)
- February 17 —Deadline for Novel submissions (register online and send forms and fees to NYC office)
- January—Iowa Region & Midwest Region-at-Large Adjudication
- Early February—Award notifications go out to students and teachers. Only students receiving awards will be notified.
- March—Exhibition of award winning work in a virtual format. Recognition ceremonies and exhibit of actual work is encouraged at the school and district levels. Iowa exhibition and ceremonies TBA.
- March 15 is National Notification Day.
- March—National award winners receive an award notification packet mailed to the students’ home addresses.
- June 1 & 2-- National Awards Celebration and Workshops.
