JSHS
The Junior Science and Humanities Symposia (JSHS) Program promotes
original research and experimentation in the sciences, engineering, and mathematics
at the high school level, and publicly recognizes students for outstanding achievement.
By connecting talented students, their teachers, and research professionals at affiliated
symposia and by rewarding research excellence, JSHS aims to widen the pool of trained
talent prepared to conduct research and development vital to our nation.
2012 Competition
Iowa high school students interested in STEM studies can participate, either as
a presenter or as a student delegate in the 2011 Iowa Regional Junior Science and
Humanities Symposium, which will be March 1-2, 2012, at the Sheraton Hotel
in downtown Iowa City, Iowa.
The top five finalists at the Iowa Regional JSHS will be awarded academic scholarships
and will be invited to attend the 50th Annual National Symposium in spring 2012.
The Academy of Applied Science will distribute $2,000 for first place,
$1,500 for second place, and $1,000 for third place at the Iowa Regional Syposium. Additionally, The
University of Iowa will award a $750 scholarship to each of the 5 finalists.
The top two presenters
at the Iowa Regional Symposium will be invited to compete at the 2012 National Symposium, which will be held May 2-6,
2012 in Washington, DC.
