The National Institute for Twice-Exceptionality (NITE)

NITE Overview

Mission

The National Institute for Twice-Exceptionality (NITE) is a resource for twice-exceptional students as well as their parents, educators, counselors, and psychologists.

Goal

We provide services for students who are twice-exceptional. We also provide training to increase the capacity of psychologists, counselors, and educators nationwide to better serve K-12 twice-exceptional students and their families.

What is twice-exceptionality?

Twice-exceptional students are gifted students with learning, behavioral, emotional, and/or social impairments. It is not uncommon for their disabilities to mask their academic potential or for their academic performance to mask their problem. Estimates suggest that more than 360,000 twice-exceptional students attend America’s schools, and current indicators reveal that this number is steadily increasing.
