Requirements
1.
Foundation Courses (9 s.h.)
A.
3 s.h. – 07B:100 Issues and Policies in Higher
Education
B.
3 s.h. – One course in research or analytic
methods such as introductory statistics, computer
applications, research process and design or survey research.
C.
3 s.h. – One course in the social context of
education such as the historical, philosophical, political,
or sociological foundations.
2.
Concentration (14-15 s.h.). The concentration
includes both basic courses as well as specialized work in
the area. The student will develop an one area of concentration
(administration, policy studies, or a focus developed in
consultation with his or her advisor). All courses contributing
to the degree as well as the student's plan of study are
to be approved by the faculty advisor.
A.
Administrative Practices – To include coursework
in organizational analysis, administrative behavior, leadership,
and management.
B.
Policy Studies – To include coursework in the
policy processes, planning, analysis, and implementation
in addition to specialized coursework. Coursework in economics,
political science, and evaluation is encouraged.
C.
Specialized focus – To include coursework related
to a student's particular area of interest as determined
by the advisor in consultation with the student. Examples
include concentrations in finance, faculty, learning, academic
management and practices, law, evaluation, continuing education,
governance, philanthropy, leadership, professional education,
community colleges.
3.
Electives (2-4 s.h.). To be approved by advisor.
4.
Practicum (2-4 s.h.). May be waived for students
with appropriate professional experience.

Practicum 2-4 s.h.
5.
Comprehensive Examinations. This will consist
of six hours of written examinations, based on the core,
concentration, and specialization according to the plan of
study developed individually for each student.
6.
Project (3 s.h.). Required of all candidates
for the M.A. degree in higher education. Topic to be selected
from the area of concentration.
