Ed.S. in Higher Education

Degree Requirements

1.   Course Requirements (46 s.h.)

A.   Minimum of 18 semester hours in professional education and related fields including a structured internship appropriate to the student's area of professional interest. These requirements are to be determined in consultation with student's adviser.

 

B.   Minimum of 28 semester hours in the area of specialization. These requirements are to be determined in consultation with the student's adviser.

2.   Electives (10 s.h.). To be approved by the candidate's adviser.

3.   Research (4 s.h.) -- 07B:395 Educational Specialist Research

4.   Comprehensive Examinations (two 3-hour examinations)

A.   An examination to cover the field of higher education in general.

B.   An examination in the student's area of specialization. An oral examination will be held following the written examination.

A related field: Students majoring in another field and desiring to complete a related field in higher education should consult with higher education adviser early in their studies. Plans of study will be developed individually for each student.

3.   Research (6 s.h.)

  • 07B:395 Educational Specialist Research
  • Coursework in research design.

 

4.   Comprehensive Examinations — The written examination shall consist of one 3-hour examination in higher education and a second examination in the teaching field. Specifically:

(a) an examination dealing with the nature of postsecondary institutions and student characteristics, the professional responsibilities of a faculty member, and the candidate's ability to organize the student matter into select appropriate teaching strategies, and

(b) an examination in the candidate's teaching field, written and administered by faculty in that field. An oral examination shall be held following the written examinations.
