Here, you can find information about computer software available to psychometricians.  (Note that the software listed here is for reference only and is not for promotional or advertising purposes.)

SAS

A popular statistical and data preparation program.  Available on computers in labs at the University of Iowa, the Statistics Outreach Center (both XP machines), and the Virtual Desktop.  Students can purchase SAS Learning Edition from SAS Institute for $60.

SPSS

A popular statistical software program used in the Social Sciences. Not as difficult to use as SAS, but not as flexible.  Available on computers in labs at the University of Iowa, the Statistics Outreach Center (both XP machines), and the Virtual Desktop.  Students can purchase SPSS 15 Student for Windows at the University Book Store for $100 or SPSS 15 Gradpack for Windows for $225.

R (S-PLUS)

Free statistical software popular for its programming language capabilities.  A myriad of statistical procedures are available through packages developed by statisticians around the world.  Available on computers in labs at the University of Iowa and the Statistics Outreach Center.  R is available for free download.

WinBUGS

Statistical software for Bayesian analysis.  WinBUGS is available on computers in labs at the University of Iowa and the Statistics Outreach Center.  WinBUGS is available for free download.

CASMA Psychometric Software

The Center for Advanced Studies in Measurement and Assessment maintains a series of free software programs for psychometric analyses.  The free software includes programs for Generalizability Theory (GENOVA, urGENOVA, mGENOVA), Equating and Linking (CIPE, RAGE-RGEQUATE, Equating Error, PIE, POLYEQUATE, LEGS), Item Response Theory (ST, POLYST, STUIRT), and Classical Test Theory (BB-CLASS, MULT-CLASS, IRT-CLASS, POLYCSEM).  The links below are software manuals available from CASMA's Research Report page.  Other manuals are contained in the programs' ZIP files.

SSI Software Suite

Scientific Software International is the publisher of many popular psychometric and statistical software programs, including BILOG, MULTILOG, LISREL, HLM, PARSCALE, and TESTFACT. All of these programs are available in the Statistics Outreach Center.  Individual programs can be purchased from SSI; each program costs between $250 and $500. Rental editions and a free student version of LISREL are also available.

AMOS

A "point-and-click" SEM software program made by the folks at SPSS.  A free student version is available for download.  (An AMOS license is approximately $1000.) AMOS is available in the Statistics Outreach Center.

M-PLUS

A text-based SEM software program.  A free demo version is available for download.  M-PLUS is available to students for $200; a "university" license is available for $600.  M-PLUS is available in the Statistics Outreach Center and the ITC at Seashore Hall.

Assessment Systems Corporation Suite
