FAC Initiatives, 2005-2006

The Skorton Resolution

As a representative of the University Senate, Steven McGuire asked the FAC to support a resolution, drafted by the University Senate, in support of President Skorton. After discussing the matter with faculty and with the Dean, the FAC supported the resolution and sent it to each of member on the Board of Regents.

Improving the FAC Web Site

The FAC asked Moon to add an electronic suggestion box to the FAC web site in order to facilitate the channels of communication between faculty and FAC representatives. We also added a section that topically describes the FAC’s initiatives and allows faculty to determine what the FAC has been doing. Finally, the web site has links to the email addresses of the FAC representatives.

College of Education Travel Money

The FAC has looked into the travel reimbursement policies of each of the departments and found enormous disparities in the out-of-pocket travel expenses of faculty. The FAC plans to report its finding to the Administrative Council, with recommendations for improvement.

Letter to Regents on Faculty Involvement in the Search for the New President

Working in coordination with the University Senate, the FAC has sent a letter to each of the members of the Board of Regents, urging the involvement of faculty in the search of the new president of the university.

A College-Wide Curriculum Committee?

After considerable discussion, the FAC has decided to not pursue the establishment of a standing college-wide curriculum committee. College wide concerns should continue to be handled on an ad hoc basis.
