Guidelines for Story Submission

Story ideas are welcomed. Please include the following basic information:

  • Basic facts about the project, center, program, or event (who, what, when, where, why)
  • Intended audience and desired goals/outcome
  • Send submissions to jill-fishbaugh@uiowa.edu for consideration and advice.

Guidelines for Marketing Assistance

While the purpose of the College’s Office of External Relations is to promote College-wide initiatives to external audiences, requests for individual program marketing assistance and advice may be provided as time permits. Please note that all content for marketing materials must be provided by the program. Once you have reviewed the following guidelines and meet the criteria put forth, contact Jill Fishbaugh.

Program Marketing

To promote a program, the following tools are necessary:

Things to think about before getting started:

  • Know your program—Be able to clearly articulate curriculum, degree options (research or practitioner or both), faculty areas of expertise, and internship, professional experiences offered
  • Know your audience—who are you trying to reach, what do you want them to know/do
  • Know your goals—what would you like to accomplish
  • Know your competition—what makes your program different, unique
  • Know your funding source—determine how much money you have to complete the project
  • Know your contact information—identify who will respond to inquiries and how

Things to complete before requesting marketing assistance:

  • Demonstrate an up-to-date web site—information must be correct, clear, and concise and include complete curriculum, degree options (research or practitioner or both), faculty areas of expertise, and internship, professional experiences offered.   • Identify a project manager—assign a graduate assistant or faculty to be responsible for project

Things program must provide to create a graduate brochure:

  • Opening/overview of profession
  • Mission statement/vision
  • Program description
  • Breakdown of degrees—with plan of study for each degree
  • Curriculum
  • Admission requirements—including deadlines and process
  • Comps/dissertation information
  • Additional factors
  • Testimonials—identify key alumni to provide positive remarks, work with Doug Allaire to get professional photos
  • Faculty bios, including degrees, teaching, research, service, and areas of expertise
  • Student resources
  • Sources of financial assistance
  • Practicum, internship sites, if applicable

Once materials are received, project will be considered and if approved, added to the queue for marketing assistance. Checklist:

  • Provide a CD with content and photos
  • Provide MFK for printing charges
  • Provide project manager contact information

Other marketing materials

Before seeking consultation or design services for additional materials, you must have an up-to-date website and a professionally printed graduate program brochure.

Once you meet this criteria, please contact Jill Fishbaugh. After consultation, projects may be considered for production, time permitting.
