Supervised graduate students in a summer reading clinic for elementary aged students. Duties included student advising and assessment and course evaluation. Worked closely with graduate students to assure that provisions were made for individual differences, identifying reading disorders and providing recommendations for educational strategies following the summer instruction.

In addition to direct instruction with children, graduate students received practice in selecting and using special instructional procedures and fitting clinical teaching techniques into a balanced developmental reading framework.

  Iowa Reading Project, Des Moines, Iowa, Spring 2002

Planned state-wide activities to garner support for improved and enhanced reading initiatives in the state of Iowa. Organized meetings, set agendas, conducted surveys as well as assessment strategies. Regularly attended legislative Education Committee meetings at the state capitol. Also attended Midwest consortium meetings in Kansas City.

Worked with state grant writer to draft a proposal to support local initiatives that would improve resources for school districts and local libraries. Traveled to numerous small towns to evaluate resources, to conduct interviews, and to gather feedback and data related to literacy research.
