Policy in Higher Education Concentration - Ph.D. View the page with information regarding the M.A. concentrations. The concentration in Policy in Higher Education is designed to prepare students with a variety of backgrounds for a broad range of professional positions in, or closely related to, institutions of higher and postsecondary education, such as: future university professors of higher education who wish to teach and conduct research in the area of public policy in higher education; public policymakers and policy analysts in 4-year and 2-year colleges and universities; public policymakers and policy analysts in state and federal government and higher education-related agencies (e.g., Iowa College Aid Commission, ACT, Board of Regents, Education Policy Institute); institutional researchers in 4-year or 2-year institutions; and current or future faculty and administrators at 4-year and 2-year public or private institutions who seek positions as academic administrators or professional/technical staff with responsibilities related to policymaking and policy analysis in a variety of campus units. Students may also choose policy courses in education and other fields related to the substantive specialty of the student, selected in consultation with the student’s advisor.
