Instructional Supervisor of Special Education Endorsement

Purpose of Program

The Instructional Supervisor of Special Education Endorsement program prepares candidates to serve as instructional services for PreK-12 special education programs. It is an endorsement-only program that requires a minimum of 24 s.h. of graduate credit.

Two endorsements are available in this program:

1. Early childhood – special education supervisor who provides services for programs for children below age seven. Candidates must have a master’s degree in special education or a master’s in another area of education plus 30 s.h. of graduate work in instructional special education. Additionally, candidates for the early childhood special education endorsement must have a minimum of 2 years of consultant/supervisor/head teacher experience in special education.
2. K-12 special education – instruction endorsement (K-12) to provide services for students aged 5-21. Candidates must have a master’s degree in special education or a master’s in another area of education plus 30 s.h. of graduate work in instructional special education. Also, candidates for the K-12 special education endorsement must have a minimum of 2 years of consultant/supervisor/head teacher experience in special education. Additionally, candidates must meet the requirements for a special education teaching endorsement at levels K-8 and 5-12.

Admission

Applicants for admission must satisfy the requirements of the Educational Leadership program and the Graduate College, which includes a residency requirement of two full-time (9 s.h. or more) registrations. Candidates will be selected on the basis of grade-point average, promise for scholarly and professional growth, GRE scores, and recommendations. Transcripts, three letters of recommendation, official GRE general test scores, and a statement of career goals are required for regular admission. Application to all graduate programs (degree or non-degree) in the College of Education requires official GRE general test scores.  Complete application materials are reviewed as received for rolling admission.
