Principal Licensure Program

Purpose of Program

The non-degree principal licensure program prepares individuals for appointments as school principals and office administrators, and for positions in AEAs and the state department of education. It is a licensure-only program that requires a minimum of 36 s.h. of graduate credit.

Admission

Applicants for admission must meet the requirements of the Graduate College. Additionally, applicants must have had three or more years of teaching experience at the early-childhood through grade-twelve level by the time they receive their degree. Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis through a faculty review process. Candidates will be selected based on consideration of grade-point average, recommendations, Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test scores, and a statement of career goals. Application to all graduate programs (degree or non-degree) in the College of Education requires official GRE general test scores.

Information on Admission to the College of Education is available through the Office of Education Services, The University of Iowa Office of Graduate Admissions, Online Graduate Applications, and College of Education Financial Aid and Graduate Assistantships.
