Licensure and Endorsement Programs in Educational Leadership

  • Principal Licensure
    This is a non-degree program consisting of 36 semester hours (s.h.): 24 s.h. of courses and 12 s.h. of clinicals.  Upon completion of this degree, students will have completed the requirements to obtain an Iowa Administration License, which makes them eligible for K-12 school principal positions.  In order to obtain the Iowa administrator license, teachers must have at least 3 years of teaching at the K-12 level.
  • Superintendent Endorsement
    This is a non-degree program consisting of 28 semester hours of coursework.  The program prepares students for superintendency positions, as well as area education agency administrators or state departments of education.  Students must already possess an Iowa Administration License and have at least 3 years of principal experience to obtain the superintendent endorsement.
  • Support Supervisor of Special Education Endorsement
    This is a non-degree, endorsement program consisting of 24 semester hours to obtain the Iowa Professional Service License in a support area.  The program prepares students to be supervisors of special education support services in schools or AEAs.  Students must have at least four years of support service experience in special education and must already possess a masters degree in school psychology, speech/language pathology audiology (or education of the hearing impaired), or social work to be eligible for this endorsement.
  • Instructional Supervisor of Special Education Endorsement
    This is a non-degree, endorsement program consisting of 24 semester hours to obtain an instructional teaching license in special education.  Two endorsements are available in the areas of early childhood and K-12 special education.  The program prepares students to be instructional supervisors of special education programs.  Students must have two years of teaching experience in special education, must already possess a masters degree in education, and have a teaching license to be eligible for this endorsement.
