M.A. in Educational Leadership without Licensure Purpose of Program The Master of Arts in Educational Leadership prepares individuals interested in leadership positions that do not require licensure or endorsements, such as governmental agencies or non-profit organizations. It is a non-licensure program that requires a minimum of 36 s.h. of graduate credit. Admission Applicants for admission must meet the requirements of the Graduate College. Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis through a faculty review process. Candidates will be selected based on consideration of grade-point average, recommendations, Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test scores, and a statement of career goals. Application to all graduate programs (degree or non-degree) in the College of Education requires official GRE general test scores. Information on Admission to the College of Education is available through the Office of Education Services, The University of Iowa Office of Graduate Admissions, Online Graduate Applications, and College of Education Financial Aid and Graduate Assistantships.Course Delivery Many of the courses offered by the Educational Leadership faculty are offered via distance education. Electives are selected in conjunction with your advisor. Comprehensive Examination The M.A. comprehensive examination consists of a six-hour examination: a three-hour general examination in educational leadership and a three-hour examination a specialized area of educational leadership or a related field. Students must be registered in the Graduate College during their comprehensive examination semester if they plan to graduate at the end of that semester. All students will take the examination on the date and time determined by the Office of Teacher Education and Student Services. Distance education students may drive to campus or take the examination in another location. Distance education students are responsible for making arrangements for a proctor and location and paying any costs for this service. The Office of Teacher Education and Student Services staff will communicate with all students regarding arrangements for the test. Students should indicate on their comprehensive examination application if they are distance education students. TESS will work with Distance Education staff so that distance education students’ examinations are made available to faculty for review. |
