New Dean Margaret Crocco spend three days in May with the UI Faculty Engagement Corps visiting teachers in Marshalltown, economic development leaders in Webster City, city and state officials in Des Moines, and nearly the entire town of Goodell, listening, learning, observing, sharing and eventually understanding Iowa in a whole new light.
This year 219 Iowa helping professionals attended workshops at the College of Education’s 32nd Annual Summer School for Helping Professionals.
In a district-wide in-service, James Stachowiak, coordinator of the Iowa Center for Assistive Technology Education and Research, presented different technologies that can help students with disabilities, as well as gave teachers a chance to experience the frustration of dyslexia through a simulation.
The College of Education selected Educational Measurement and Statistics Professor Michael Kolen for its 2010-11 Collegiate Teaching Award.
Faculty receiving honors and awards include professors Susan Assouline, Alissa Doobay, Greg Hamot, Malik Henfield, Noel Estrada-Hernandez, and Megan Foley Nicpon. Graduate students recognized include Christine Skow and Leslie Prideaux.
College of Education faculty and students reached out across Iowa, the region, and the nation with educational programs this summer. These included a virtual conference on the latest educational technologies in collaboration with the Discovery Education Network, a summer institute for teachers on global education, and the Outreach to Teach student leadership conference.
