Professors Vicki Burketta and Walter Seaman received a grant for over $130,000 for the second phase of their EMPOWERR (Elementary Mathematics Parternship Opening Windows to Excellence, Rigor, and Relevance) project. The project aims to improve student mathematics achievement by providing professional development experiences for teachers.
U.S.News & World Report recognized the College of Education several times in its 2012 edition of Top Online Education Program rankings.
Ten years ago, Professor Al Hood helped start the UI’s Senior College, an adult learning program that has been a source of enjoyment and intellectual stimulation for hundreds of eastern Iowa seniors and beyond ever since.
Four doctoral students were named 2012 Graduate Obermann Fellows: Kira Pasquesi, Lenore Maybaum, Nkechi Onwuameze, and Wendy Miller. The Obermann Center for Advanced Studies also named Mackenzie O’Connor as an Undergraduate Fellow. Other awards include the REACH dorm being named as an Outstanding Community of the Month and doctoral student Beth Ackerson’s nomination of her mother who was recognized as UI Mom of the Year.
