Downloadable Recommendation Form (MS WORD)
Candidates are strongly encouraged to submit letters of recommendation on letterhead from the writer. As an alternative, this electronic form may be used as a template.
How it Works

University of Iowa students and alumni from all areas and professional programs are welcome to establish a placement file/dossier. Once established and letters have been submitted, your file contains:

  • Letters of recommendation (academic and professional only) from people you select;
  • An official University of Iowa cover folder;
  • (Optional) Your University of Iowa transcript.

Upon your entry into the job market, you'll visit our web page and request that your file/dossier be sent to prospective employers following the instructions they provide. You'll submit your résumé/CV, cover letter, and any other documents the employer may request, e.g. teaching license, writing sample, transcripts from other institutions, portfolios, application forms, and test scores under separate cover.

*Some employers use the term Dossier or credentials to refer to a placement file. Others use the terms to include the entire packet of application materials.
