Sample Lesson Plans

I have developed and taught several lessons based on Gingerbread Stories. While these are shown in the Student Work section, for now, let's look at another lesson I developed and taught that was also very popular with my students. It was a logical extension to the Gingerbread Story lesson series. After reading three gingerbread type stories we decided to write one of our own.

The students worked hard thinking up good plots and reading them to each other. Once students had their plots developed, they went ahead and wrote their stories in teams. Finally, we all contributed illustrations to the stories. At the end of two weeks, we read the stories over cookies which we made just for the occasion with the help of the cafeteria staff.

The following is an excerpt from one student's story.

This lesson was a synthesis of ideas found in Martin Cosill's Teaching Life Skills and Susan Smith's Lesson Plans for the 21st Century.

If interested, you can take a look at a Writing Conferences lesson plan I developed.
