Providing Support - Advising the Dean - Increasing Awareness
The Diversity Committee seeks to support students through organized social events, orientation of new students, the Student Mentoring Program, sponsoring fairs and poster sessions research that is relevant to diversity, and student meetings with the Dean of the College of Education.
The Diversity Committee maintains a sub-committee that is devoted to the Recruitment and Retention of culturally diverse Faculty, Staff, and Students. Specific actions taken by this committee include developing the Student Mentoring Program, securing a Post-Doctoral position in which a culturally diverse person is mentored in any of the divisions within the College of Education, recruiting for the Holmes Scholar Award, and gathering diversity related information from other institutions of higher education in order to benefit The University of Iowa College of Education.
The Diversity Committee seeks to increase awareness of diversity within the College of Education through sponsorship of diversity related programming for all members of the college, recognizing faculty and staff that have demonstrated a commitment to diversity, publicizing information about diversity related events within the college and throughout the campus, informing curriculum, and encouraging a wide spectrum of diversity education external to the college.
