Links Center of Inquiry in the Liberal Arts at Wabash College The mission of the Center of Inquiry in the Liberal Arts is to explore, test, and promote liberal arts education. The Center seeks to ensure that the nature and value of liberal arts education is widely understood and to reestablish the central place of the liberal arts in higher education. The Center collaborates with researchers, faculty, administrators, and the public to gather high quality evidence on the outcomes of liberal arts education. Although liberal arts education impacts a wide range of important qualities, the Center’s research currently focuses on: integration of learning; lifelong learning; effective reasoning and problem solving; moral character; intercultural effectiveness; leadership; and well-being. Documenting Effective Educational Practice (Project DEEP) Project DEEP documents programs, policies and practices that successfully engage students in productive learning activities. Finding are widely disseminated through monographs summarizing the practices that characterize educationally effective colleges and universities; policy briefs prepared for higher education administrators and policy makers, legislators, accreditors, and the media; roundtable reports outlining themes of importance to constituency groups; and workshops and presentations at national and regional meetings. Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) AAC&U is the leading national association concerned with the quality, vitality, and public standing of undergraduate education. Its members are committed to extending the advantage of a liberal education to all students, regardless of their academic specialization or intended career. AAC&U represents the entire spectrum of American colleges and universities—large and small, public and private, two-year and four-year. National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) Institute The Institute works with institutions and other organizations to collect and disseminate research on promising practices and to assist schools in using data for institutional improvement and student success initiatives. A primary goal of the Institute is to draw upon the work of its current and future research initiatives to help faculty, administrators, and governing board members discover and implement effective mechanisms for linking information about student experiences to efforts to improve academic programs and support services. |
