Guide to Searching Children's and

Young Adult Literature

Informational Books

Informational books are non-fiction books about people, places, events or things, or books that tell the reader how to do something, such as how to make a kite or how to draw a shark.  The calll number must begin with a Dewey Decimal number, but may not be 292 (myths) 398 (folklore) or many of the 800;s (poetry & literature collections).  Books located in the 920's are biographies/autobiographies.

To Browse:  Wander through the non-fiction Dewey Decimal shelves, excluding the 292's 398's, 800's, and 920's.

For more unusual subjects that might appear in an informational book but may not appear as a subject heading, or if you want as many books as possible, try the following strategy, following the instructions precisely:
