comPADRE! - The comPADRE Pathway, a part of the National Science Digital Library, is a growing network of educational resource collections supporting teachers and students in Physics and Astronomy. collections of physics materials targeted at you, whether you are a K-12 teacher, college faculty member, student, education researcher, or someone generally interested in Physics and Astronomy.


Frank Potter's Science Gems
- It takes a few clicks, but there are science lesson plans here for grades K-12 for physical, earth, and life sciences.

Ohio State's GK-12 Program  -  Partners teachers and science graduate students in a workshop setting to make an exceptional science teaching team.  Teachers participating in the program are asked to collaborate with the Fellows during the lesson development process, and Lesson Plans from each session are posted for various topics in Biological Science, Earth Science, Math, Physical Science and Science Methods for Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade.

Outstanding Science Trade Books for Children - Selected by a panel from the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and assembled in cooperation with the Children's Book Council (CBC). Kindergarten through eighth grade.

Science NetLinks - From the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Lesson plans and online resources based on Benchmarks for Science Literacy.

WISE - Web-based Inquiry Science Environment (WISE) is a free on-line science learning environment for students in grades 4-12, supported by the National Science Foundation. Project topics include genetically modified foods and earthquake prediction.

Organizations

Iowa ScienceTeachers Section of the Iowa Academy of Science - Their mission is, "to advocate for excellence in science education by promoting professionalism,influencing policy, and enhancing learning." Several exemplary sites realted to science instruction are listed as recent additions to the "Science Links" section of their web site.

National Science Teachers Association - Web sites, professional development opportunities, some journal articles, and more recommended resources.

Content Sites

Environmental Kids Club: You and Your Environment - Global warming, Earth Day, and recycling are only some of the topics addressed in this website that contains coloring pages, puzzles, games, and stories. Gr. 4-8.

Cool Science for Curious Kids - Created by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, this site offers activities for children about plants, butterflies, air quality, and more.

Imagine the Universe - "This site is intended for students age 14 and up, and for anyone interested in learning about our universe." News, special features, and many explanatory articles. Includes math and science lesson plans.

The Nine Planets - "An overview of the history, mythology, and current scientific knowledge of each of the planets and moons in our solar system."

Physics Central - From the American Physical Society - physics in the news, a physics expert who answers questions, subject access to previous questions and answers, plus links to more physics resources for beginners (all ages), general (high school) and advanced (beyond high school).

Star Child - Two levels of information for elementary students about the solar system, the universe and "space stuff." Includes links to other astronomy sites for kids.

U.S. Geological Survey - Articles on biology, geology, hydrology, and geography, sites for kids, plus lessons and activities for grades K-12.

Scientific American Sci/Tech Web Awards - Fifty web sites, five in each of ten categories including archeology, astronomy, earth, mathematics, and physics.

Visual Elements - Flash version gives pictorial representation of the Periodic Table. HTML version also available. A description, history, chemical data, and uses given for each element. Information on the table as a whole is presented plus more links to other chemistry sites.

Volcano World - Comprehensive information source about volcanoes. Includes quizzes, project ideas, and virtual field trips as well as some lesson ideas.

What's It Like Where You Live? - Designed for grades 4+, this site from the Missouri Botanical Gardens gives comprehensive information on biomes and ecosystems of the world.

The Yuckiest Site on the Internet - Information about bodily functions, earthworms and roaches.

Museums and Science Centers

Exploratorium - The Learning Studio has fun activities, links to ten cool sites (selected monthly), and interactive exhibits. This is only one of the informative and entertaining sections at this site.

Field Museum - Online exhibits incude Sue, the world’s largest, most complete Tyrannosaurus rex, the butterfly collection, and the man-eating lions of Tsavo.

National Museum of Natural History - Through Educational Resources, find several electronic field trips plus additional information for students and teachers.

Science Museum of Minnesota - Online activities include going back to the time of the dinosaurs, looking at windmills and whirligigs, and monarch butterfly migration.
